EDITOR'S COLUMN-- It sure is rough

Thank you all for sticking with it

the situation out here; I am NOT
giving up on the trusty TIMEX line.
In fact, I hope to keep our pastime

Seriously, I am sorry about missing the last four months, but I had no
idea that raising a child would be so time-consuming, especially in
the first months. It has been a non-stop project from the minute I
delivered her (yes, we never made it to the hospital, and I did the
honors). Anyway, I am glad to be back "on the beat" and we'll get
right to the news. Thanks for your patience. ... Tony Willing, =d-
GOOD NEWS TRAVELS...-—- Via BBS, on the "Sinclair Users Unite!"
National echo, comes the news that Bill Jones, Editor/Publisher of
"Update!" Magazine for the T/S 2868 and QL, has just gotten out of the
hospital, where he underwent something akin to "medieval torture”. The
message also noted that the latest issue of "Update!" had already been
mailed, so if you're wondering where the January isssue went, just
watch the mailbox. Glad to hear that Bill Jones is doing better, and
you can contact him at 1317 Stratford Avenue, Panama City, FL 52424,
(984-871-3556), to wish him well or better yet, subscribe to his
magazine. The price is $16.00 for. four quarterly issues, and is really
a great resource for the T/S world. If you have a 2868 or UL, it's
worth a look (Incidentally, VISTA still has one back issue looking for

GREAT NEWS-— Now is the time to make plans to go to the 1996 Sinclair
Computer Exposition, sponsored by the Sinclair Milwaukee Users Group
(SMUG, 5952 М. 91st St., Milwaukee, WI 55225, (414)527-2191). The
dates are June 1-3, 1990, at the Holiday Inn Waukesha. The hotel
charges a flat rate of $45.09 per room, but ONLY if you call and make
reservations through the hotel at (414) 786-0460. А banquet is planned,
as well as a SNUG meeting, seminars, lectures, displays, vendors, and
more. If you can possibly go, make plans and get there-- it will be a
fun event with bargains galore for the dedicated T/S user. A
reservation form will be included in this issue of the newsletter.
Don't miss it!
НЕІР'-- A letter from Rob Downey, 1156 Marigold, E. Lansing, MI 48823,
asks if there's a user's manual in existence for "Tree-Forth" for the
TS/ZX line. It seems he came across a Т/5-1590 with a "Tree-Forth" ROM
and needs documentation to figure out how to utilize it more fully.
Does anyone know where such items might be found? Rob would appreciate
it. Also, Donald Lambert, 3319 Clover Drive, SW, Cedar Rapids, IA
32404, would like any data on interfacing a Tandon TM-19¢-2A DSDD 40
track drive to a ZX-81 Larken Disc interface. Anyone who has this
-ombination running would help Don out a great deal by getting in
touch with him. Good Luck.

| TIP?—— I've heard rumors that Radio Shack has an item called a "68K
series Attenuator" patch cord that cleans up tape-to-tape recordings
for those who duplicate computer program tapes. I'11 try to check this
ut and report back on the existance of this cord.
N THE MAILBAG-- TIME DESIGNS, Volume 5, Number 2,!! TDM lives, іп a
new format, 7" x 8.5", but still packed with information. Rumor has it
that Volume 5, Number 3 is on the, and it's good to see that Tim Woods
is still in there pitching for us. If you are still missing back
issues, try leaving a message on the TDM BBS, (503)824—2658, 8/1/N,
388 baud only. Let him know when you paid, how you paid and your
complete name and address. If you do not have a modem, drop a line in
the mail. Good to see TDM back! EMSoft, РОВ 8763, Boston, МА 92114-
8765, sends along a catalog filled with goods for the TS/ZX up to the
QL, including TS/ZX software and Bus Connector cables (great to cure
RAM pack wobble), all at bargain prices. VISA an MC are accepted, so
phone or write today. AT Software Liquidators, 2540 5 Harbor Blvd.,
Santa Ana, СА, 92784, (899) 555-4850, is closing out T/S-1000 software
for $2.99 each, 10 programs for $15.00. Titles come from Timex,
Mindware and Timeworks, and include the hard-to-find games "Star
Battle" and "Scyon's Revenge", two difficult but fun "Star Trek" style
games for the Т/5-1898. They also offer 16K Timex RAMS for $9.95 each.
They guarantee the software to load, and their minimum order is
$25.80, so maybe a group buy would work better since many people have
most of the titles they offer. DISCWORX, 740-F Sierra Vista Ave.,
Mountain View, CA, 94043, offers bulk prices on discs and disc storage
boxes for as low as $4.99. Contact them at (800) 456-5889 for orders,
(415)965-2172 for info. Dynacomp, Inc., 178 Phillips Rd., Webster, NY
14588, offers C-20 computer grade data cassettes for just .33 each for
28-198, and the prices drops to „29 if you order 189. Each cassette
includes a norelco-style plastic box, and after using these for over 2
years, I can say they are among the very best I've ever had. The are
very good tapes, with no dropouts or other flaws. Dynacomp also offers
tractor feed mailing labels for $3.95/1000, $:.49/1000 if you buy 5809
or more. Check out he price at Radio Shack and you'll see what a good
deal Dynacomp offers. VISA/MC/AMEX accepted at (800)828-6772, 24 hrs.
GOODBYE, COMPUTER SHOPPER-- As you may already know, "Computer
Shopper" magazine has suspended all coverage of "classic computers",
flushing their monthly columns on the TI-99/4A, Atari 8-bit fachines,
Commodore 64/128, and most importantly, Timex/Sinclair. Their
reasoning was that their market was better served by catering to the
"mainstream users", i.e., PC-compatible and Macintosh users. I have <
most certainly bought my last issue of "Computer Shopper"!! I hope
they soon realize in a monetary way how many users are represented by
these computers and re-think their decision, but until then, I'11 just
scan the ads while my wife does the grocery shopping! There may be
some hope, however, with a new publication called "Vulcan's Computer
Buyer's Guide". They intend to pick up coverage immediately on the
"classic computer" market segment with monthly columns and reviews,
and they welcome our input. Contact Vulcan Publications at РОВ 55886,
2 Riverchase Plaza, Birmingham, Alabama, 35244, (205) 988-9708,
(800) 566-0676. With any luck, we may get even better coverage than we
had before. "
